Hemp farmers in New York are poised to have a boost from new principles permitting medical marijuana businesses to utilize their plants to create CBD products.
Further, the principles try to decrease the prices for tens of thousands of medical marijuana patients statewide who utilize CBD, or cannabidiol, say officials said.
The principles would enable the 10 accredited medical marijuana businesses to purchase the less costly hemp and relevant extracts grown beneath the nation’s Hemp Agricultural Research Pilot Program, which found 2015.
Formerly, the medical marijuana firms needed to rely solely upon their particular surgeries to create CBD, which raised the prices for patients, say officials said.
“Since its launch, the state’s hemp research program has seen tremendous interest from growers and processors, and this new regulation will provide our research partners with another market for their products,” said state Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard Ball.
