Mexico' s Proposed Law to Federally legalize marijuana goals at cutting drug-related crime

Mexican lawmakers are debating the particulars of laws which would legalize marijuana nationally. Many are projecting that laws could be prepared for consideration once late October, making for a fast turnaround on the problem.

In case Mexico legalizes marijuana for adult use nationally, the nation will get only the third on earth to achieve that. Uruguay and Canada have made cannabis legal at the Federal level. The conclusion would place the USA, where marijuana is prohibited in the Federal level, involving two big nations which are getting a major head start in producing legal cannabis markets.

Lawmakers are considering 13 distinct suggestions during hearings which will contain comments from the general public, based on Mexico News Daily. These include a statement filed by Sen. Julio Menchaca Salazar of this government’s judgment MORENA party.

Making cannabis criminal has “only generated the creation of an organized mafia,” that the senator said, as reported by a MORENA press launch.

The Supreme Court Cleared The Solution For It Early 2019

Lawmakers are reviewing the legalization tips since, according to Reuters, the nation’s Supreme Court ruled that the prohibition against marijuana was unconstitutional.  The conclusion was a part of a set of orders issued from the court on marijuana in overdue 2018.

Per the Mexican Supreme Court, “the effects caused by marijuana do not justify an absolute prohibition on its consumption.” The conclusion effectively turned the problem over the authorities to set up the principles and regulations of a legal system.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s government has since established legislation which produce a medical marijuana business nationally, and would legalize recreational marijuana nationally, Reuters reported.  This move came after the Supreme Court needed a six-month deadline for lawmakers to make regulations for medical marijuana to make sure patients who require cannabis can access it legally.

Mexico Lawmakers Need Legalization To Assist Curtail Drug-Related Crime

The statement issued by the president’s party is just one of many that speech offense in Mexico, concentrated heavily on drug-related offense; that continues to be a significant problem for Mexico.

Mexican drug cartels allegedly make between $19 billion and $29 billion in drug sales in the USA, according to a joint Mexico-U.S. file, each CNN.

According to this media release regarding the bill filed by Salazar, the laws could create Mexico’s Ministry of Health responsible for designing regulations to its “planting, cultivation, harvesting, preparation, possession and transportation” of marijuana, in addition to regulations regulating use by adults from the nation.

Using a potential legislation draft over the next few weeks, Mexico might find itself with legalized marijuana nationally as ancient as 2020.
